Hello! I’m Sima Kumar, the founder of Middle Aged Mafia. Gather ’round as I share the story behind its inception.

You see, now in my early 50s, I’ve grown weary of society’s hushed whispers, sidelining us middle-aged women as inconsequential. I refuse to fade into the background and know I’m not the only one! Thus, Middle Aged Mafia was born—an unapologetic rebellion against the status quo.

Why This?

Quite simply, I grew tired of the relentless stereotypes plaguing us like pesky mosquitos on a sultry summer eve. I yearned for a space where we could rise above societal expectations, a community that defies the limits imposed upon us. I also believe in strength in numbers, especially when disrupting, redefining, and conquering. I want Middle-Aged Mafia to be our sanctuary, where we gather to challenge convention, redefine middle age, and celebrate the glorious mess of menopause. No longer shall we be defined solely by our age or societal labels. We are so much more than that! 

Here, we boldly reclaim our visibility, worth, and power. Collectively we must refuse to be ignored, cast aside, or dismissed. Together, I believe we can demolish the barriers that confine us and build an unstoppable legacy reverberating through the ages. So, my fellow rebels and mischief makers, if you’ve been seeking a community that embraces disruption, revels in liberation, and celebrates the unconventional, then you’ve found a home for your sleep-disrupted, estrogen-deficient beautiful self.

Middle age, a phase once burdened by stereotypes and misconceptions, is now a time of unapologetic empowerment. After speaking to thousands of women for the past three years, I know we need and want a space to come together to find information, articles, resources, and inspiration across various aspects of life, including health and wellness, finances, our legal rights, and, of course, fashion and beauty.

Why Me?

Throughout my career, I’ve been guided by a vision of diversity, inclusivity and equity. This vision has been profoundly shaped by my recent experiences as a co-founder and former CEO of an award-winning DEI company. Witnessing firsthand the exodus of middle-aged women from the workforce despite our strides towards workplace equity and inclusivity has been a sobering reality. The data unequivocally demonstrates that having women in leadership is beneficial and essential for business success.

For three decades, I’ve professionally traversed the world of fashion, film, and media, often finding myself as the sole brown woman in the room. Despite facing the challenges of being sidelined and underestimated, I’ve remained resolute in my determination to effect change. My journey has led me from the periphery to the forefront and back again, fueled by a passion for magazines, media, and technology. It’s within this dynamic landscape that I’ve envisioned and cultivated a vibrant community—a refuge where women can harness their strength, resilience, and distinctive beauty.

In this sanctuary, we defy expectations and support each other as we navigate the complexities of middle age with boldness and determination. It’s not just about personal success; it’s about fostering a collective empowerment that transcends boundaries and propels us towards a future where every woman can thrive.
